This course introduces the student to street law or the practical laws used in everyday life (on the streets). Every purchase, lease, contract, marriage, divorce, crime or traffic violation places the citizen face-to-face with the law. This course is designed to provide you with an understanding of your legal rights and responsibilities, a knowledge of everyday legal problems, and the ability to analyze, evaluate, and in some situations, resolve legal disputes. We bring in many current legal encounters that are going on both in the business world as well as those items in the news. Topics covered will include a brief history of the law, our court systems, crimes, criminal law, defenses, investigation phases, trials, tort law, negligence, strict liability, contracts, warranties, credit, deceptive sales practices, being a smart consumer, housing, family laws, Constitutional laws, discrimination, and workplace rights and responsibilities.
