"A Thought from the Past"
Anna Zellick’s “History of
Lewistown School District No. 1, 1882-1982” includes a quote fro Vernon G.
Mays, the high school’s principal for 1923-1925. It seems appropriate to
share it today with today’s students and staff as follows.”
“We who constitute
Fergus County High School are the fortunate inheritors of the traditions,
the customs and the spirit of many noble predecessors amount both students
and teachers.
We assume them that
their courageous devotion to high ideals, their careful laying of the
foundation has not been in vain. They have helped to establish the
character of our school.
“We who follow after
are determined to maintain that character and to transmit it to our
successors not less noble, and, if possible, more nearly ideal than we
received it, because we are building above what they have founded.”
Yours, full of faith
Vernon G. Mays, Principal
FCHS 1923-1925
