  1. This week we will be studying paired texts. This means you will have 2 stories to read. At the end, you will be asked questions about each passage, as well as questions about differences and/or similarities between the passages.
  2. Log into ReadWorks
    • complete "Problems & Consequences" paired text.
  3. If you have time, you may read a book you have at home, go to Epic, or you can also explore the ReadWorks site and read items from your personal library! Don't forget to keep taking AR tests!

WRITING: Make-believe Monday

**Please note: Some of you are turning in writing that is only one sentence long. This is not acceptable for a 3rd grader in the 4th quarter! Here is how I have been grading your writing:

5 points (100%):

+ Capital letters (beginning of sentences, proper nouns, I, etc.)
+ Punctuation
+ Mostly correct spelling
+ Your writing is on topic (based on the prompt for the day) and has well developed ideas
+ Complete sentences - at least 5 that stay on topic

4 points (80%):

+ Capital letters (see above)
+ Punctuation
+ Some spelling errors
+ Writing is on topic, but leaves the reader with some questions. Your writing does not explain the story, or leaves gaps in the story.
+ Mostly contains complete sentences - 4 or less

3 points (60%):

+ Some capital letters
+ Some punctuation, or only one punctuation mark at the end of the story
+ Many spelling errors
+ Writing is not on topic, or contains very few ideas that develop the topic
+ Some complete sentences, or only contains one long run-on sentence

2 points (40%):

+ Few or no capital letters
+ Few or no punctuation marks
+ So many spelling errors that it is hard to understand the story
+ Writing is not on topic, does not develop the topic of the day
+ Does not contain complete sentences

0 points (0%):

+ writing not turned in

May 4 is often considered Star Wars Day (May the Forth Be With You!). If you have parental permission, try this Exploding Death Star activity! Once you've finished the activity, write a short (1 paragraph) story pretending the Death Star actually exploded! If you don't have parental permission, just write a story about the Death Star exploding. If you don't know what a Death Star is, click here. Post your story to your Bloomz portfolio.
