I am Matthew Lewis, Principal of Garfield Elementary, this is my 23 year as an educator. I spend the beginning of my career teaching 4th grade, 1st grade and Kindergarten in Southern California. While that was a great experience moving back to Montana was always the goal. I was fortunate enough to become the elementary principal in Dillon, Montana where I lived for 5 year. In 2008, I moved to Lewistown and began as the Principal at Lewis and Clark Elementary, where I spent two years. From 2010 - 2014 I spent my time as the principal of both Highland Park Elementary School and Garfield Elementary School. After the challenge of leading two elementary schools ended, I work with the Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students and staff at Highland Park until 2016. The school district reconfigured our primary grade level that year and I was then tasked with moving to Garfield to work with our Kindergarten and 1st grade kids, parents, and staff. I can say that my educational journey have been very rewarding, I cannot think of anything I would rather be doing than working with students, parents and teachers. I look forward to the years to come with hope that I can continue to assist students, parents, and teachers in Lewistown!!
