Signs of Suicide (SOS) training and outreach being conducted by Lewistown Junior High School, during Health Enhancement classes in the coming weeks. The acronym SOS stands for Signs of Suicide, and the training is for school staff, students, and parents.
You may be aware that Montana has the highest suicide rate in the nation. In light of this statistic, we feel preventative measures as provided in this training, are extremely important to help your child deal with this serious and difficult issue.
The materials we will use are from the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program as provided by the State of Montana’s suicide prevention specialist. All Montana School Districts are required to implement this training. The Junior High Staff will be reviewing the training that we covered last year. Next week, on Monday March 2nd (for A day Health classes), and Friday March 6th (for B day Health classes), we will provide the Signs of Suicide (SOS) training to all our junior high students.
In addition, during our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on March 26, 2020, we will have two adult viewings and a brief discussion of the Signs of Suicide for interested parents. Expect more information on that as conferences get closer.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our counselor Mrs. Majerus, Health Enhancement teachers Mr. Armstrong and Mr. Johnson, or Principal Scott Dubbs.
